HOW TO USE

LEGAL SIZE SHEET PROTECTORS

A legal-size document is actually the perfect document size, a full 8-1/2 x 14 inches high. Legal size papers just provide those 3 inches extra at the bottom to write on that always seem to be missing on a standard letter format, being 8-1/2 x 11 inch.

Nowadays, most larger printers and copy machines accept the legal-size format and binders as well as legal-sheet protectors are available so there is no real reason not to choose the legal-format when preparing documents. The extra 3 inches may also be the reason why many law and legal companies choose to work in this format and issue their forms and blankets in this large size format.

The legal-size sheet protector is punched with 4 holes opposed to the more traditional 3-hole punched letter-size format. These 4 holes simply provide better support for the stored documents when filed in a binder. It prevents the documents from sagging and getting wrinkled with time. At present, the 14 x 8-1/2 size sheet protector is also offered in archival-safe material so you no longer need to worry when it comes to long-term storage, as long as the products are approved as being: Archival-safe.

LEGAL SIZE FOR GENEALOGY WORK

For the curiosity of readers, it can be mentioned that a lot of genealogy work and documents are actually made with legal size paper. Lots of older church documents are written in this format and so the legal size genealogy sheet protectors comes in handy in this large size format.

These  8.5 x 14 inch clear sheet protectors have many desired features, including acid-free, non-binding and clear and durable (3.94 mil/100 micron) polypropylene plastic with 4 (instead of 3) holes.
The legal size I purchased is perfect for standard, legal and A4 (European) paper sizes as I have a variety of certified documents and old photographs that make use of this protection.
What I would have preferred but could find nowhere are side loading sheet protectors in this size that would load from the binder's spine side to help assure that contents would not fall out.  Side loading was available only in letter and smaller sizes.
